Disinfectant wipes are designed to eliminate bacteria and deactivate viruses on surfaces. They contain potent chemicals, such as alcohols, chlorides, and hydrogen peroxide, that are highly effective at killing contaminants. However, when used on handpieces, these harsh chemicals seep into the openings and damage the internal components causing rust and corrosion. Since handpieces undergo sterilization via an autoclave and do not require disinfection, using disinfectant wipes can actually compromise the sterilization process.
