How do I use RiteWipe handpiece wipes?

After handpiece use, remove the rotary instrument from the handpiece using safe methods and discard into an appropriate sharps container.

  1. Remove the handpiece from the coupling or dental tubing.
  2. Open the RiteWipe cap and seal to remove the wipe.
  3. Close the seal, then the cap on the RiteWipe pouch to ensure wipe integrity and cleanliness.
  4. With the RiteWipe “Blue Dot Technology” facing towards the handpiece surface, wipe the handpiece in a rotational direction around the handpiece, touching all surfaces, starting at the head and moving towards the bottom.

Rotate the handpiece within the wipe several times until debris and bioburden are no longer visible, paying close attention to the fiber optic lens area (if present), water port(s) area, and uneven surfaces.

Can I use the RiteWipe product on equipment and other parts of the operatory?

RiteWipe handpiece wipes are a cleaner, NOT a disinfectant. RiteWipe can be used to clean other operatory equipment and items that are to be sterilized between patients. Equipment and items that are NOT intended to be sterilized between patients are to be disinfected with a proper EPA-registered Hospital disinfectant per the device instructions for use (IFU).

Is the RiteWipe product an enzymatic cleaner?

No. Enzymatic cleaners are excellent for static and hinged surgical instruments, but are NOT indicated for dynamic instruments like handpieces, because of the corrosive nature of enzymatic cleaners.

Why do I need to rinse off the handpiece after RiteWipe use?

Per CDC guidelines, “[a]fter cleaning, instruments should be rinsed with water to remove chemical or detergent residue.”

What is the purpose of the Blue Dots?
  1. The dots assist in the mechanical removal of stubborn levels of bioburden and debris.
  2. The dots also identify the type of wipe RiteWipe is – a handpiece cleaning wipe and NOT as a disinfectant surface wipe.

Is this a disinfectant?

No! NOT INTENDED AS A SURFACE DISINFECTANT. RiteWipe handpiece wipes do NOT contain disinfectants that kill pathogenic microorganisms. RiteWipes are for the removal of debris and contamination, whether organic or inorganic, from sensitive dental instruments prior to sterilization per CDC guidance. Such handpieces and instruments are harmed by using harsher chemicals such as chloride or alcohol-containing products.
